Great Ocean Road Day Tour 5

Description

This morning you will be taken to The Great Ocean Road where you will experience one of the world's most spectacular coastal drives.
The Great Ocean Road was voted by Conde Nast Traveller magazine as the "Best Coastal Drive on the Planet".
Travel via the Westgate Bridge & Geelong, Australia's most important wool port. Then we will stop to have toilet break and enjoy coffee/tea and hot chocolate. Further along the coast are the fishing villages and holiday resorts of Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay where you will stop at this quaint village in Apollo Bay. Continue your journey along The Great Ocean Road the world's most inspiring drive is utterly breathtaking. Huge rolling waves have carved spectacular shapes from the limestone cliffs, which today stand majestically in the ocean. Arrive at the most photographed Twelve Apostles. An iconic image of Australia and listed as, "One of the ten things to see before you die" by Fodders. These breathtaking, stone giants climbing out of the sea have been created by millions of year's Mother Nature's best work. Continue on to visit the historic Loch Ard Gorge with its magnificent view of the ocean that carved the limestone cliff edge. The gorge is named after the clipper ship Loch Ard, which crashed on nearby Muttonbird Island on 1 June 1878. Finally return to Melbourne via inland route.

Depart from city, then head straight for the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road to begin our journey along this spectacular coastal drive. We’ll stop for some morning tea where you can relax and enjoy the scenery before we head off to the Memorial Arch. Here, you can snap some photos at one of the route’s most iconic landmarks.

Lunch is in the beachside town of Apollo Bay (own expense), where you can tuck into local fare and refuel for an afternoon of incredible sightseeing. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy 20-minute guided bush walk to the Cascades of Melba Gully.

When all have returned we then head on to the 12 Apostles, one of Australia’s most famous landmarks. These limestone stacks form an incredible backdrop to the sea views, so be sure to bring your camera along.

Afterwards, we’ll move on to Loch Ard Gorge, which is shrouded by impressive limestone cliffs. We’ll take a walk here and check out the local attractions, including the Archway, the Razorback, and Dumpling Pots. You’ll also get to learn about Australia’s most famous shipwreck while you’re here.
